How To Sweat Less this Summer

There's no denying that the heat across the Philippines will not let up until the rainy days finally come.  Those who planned vacations this May probably hoped the summer heat would've let up a little bit by now, but that unfortunately isn't the case. The heat is a given considering that we are a tropical country, but the worsening case of global warming is making things worse.

As much as we all want to stay inside an airconditioned room all day, we are social creatures. People are bound to come out and mingle one way or another. But the more we mingle outside, the more we sweat.
 

 

Perspiration has long been an enigma for us guys, and in the worst cases, it gets in the way. You dress up for a night out, only to find out that the heat hasn't subsided just yet. Now, you're sweating through your shirt and scaring away potential pulls for the night. Even in the day when it's even hotter, buying lunch outside is practically a workout.

Guy to guy, here are some ways you can last the rest of this summer without perspiring so damn much:


Stay Away from Anything Spicy

Unless you are lucky enough to be in an air conditioned room all day, it might be a good idea to stay away from spicy food and hot drinks. Even if you say that these things help you stimulate your mind for work or school, maybe reserve it for the night when you get home. As long as you're still out, eat non-sweat inducing foods. Instead of Bicol express  or that spicy binagoongan from your favorite jolly jeep or lunch joint of choice, maybe you should get something else instead.

Eliminate the Layers, or Wear an Undershirt

If you feel cool now just because you've been in the office all day, don't make the mistake that it will last. Even if you leave the office just as the sun is setting, chances are you will still end up sweating on your way to the MRT or the UV Express. The best thing to do in any case is to lose the layers. Wear something light colored, so the rays will bounce off your shirt. In case you need to wear long-sleeved shirts, always wear an undershirt. You may think it's counterproductive, but it shields your primary shirt from those unsightly sweat stains. You will probably perspire underneath, but at least no one can really see it.

Use a Deodorant

Deodorants and antiperspirants, readily available in any supermarket or convenience store, will really stop that sweat. A simple swipe on your underarms in the morning will stop the sweat in the underarms for an entire day and keep you feeling fresh and cool.

What's Up Doc?

If you're one of the few who have hyperhidrosis, the condition of people who sweat excessively, antiperspirants won't help. Opposed to it or not, sometimes cosmetic treatment is your only choice.

This is not to say that you should make it a mission to stop sweating altogether. You still have to exercise to stay in shape, and sweating has its benefits. A study from the US linked sweating to lower chances of prostate cancer, while an Australian university even went so far to state that it can save your life. Just make sure you're aiming to sweat, i.e. working out, and you'll be fine.

Here's hoping that if anyone says “stay cool” to help someone with their sweating, they elaborate on it. Before it even comes to that, do your best to avoid getting drenched in sweat in this heat. These tips might not seem like much, but trust us when we say it'll help you get there eventually.
