Holiday Concerts: The Manila Music Scene this December
For Filipinos, Christmas is a time for family and friends. After the devastation that Yolanda brought the country, this holds true more than ever.
With Christmas also being the time for celebrations, it won't do to dwell in melancholy throughout season. With that said, if you're looking for some holiday fun before the New Year starts, here's a lineup of the hottest concerts and events this December:
Known for Million Voices and iTrack, Swedish electro house DJ and music producer Otto Knows is coming to Manila for his first live DJ set in the country. The concert is on December 14 at Republiq Club, Resorts World Manila.
With a UK chart hit under his belt and a slew of big name remixes, Knows knows how to make an audience dance and jump to the best beats. Watch this famous Swedish DJ turn the volume up this Christmas season.
The American pop, hip-hop, and R&B duo MKTO will make their concert debut in Manila on December 14. The duo is set to perform two shows on the date. Their audience will get to hear their hits such as Classic and Thank You on Eastwood Mall Open Park at 4pm and at Venice Piazza at McKinley Hill at 7pm.
As one of the few artists in today's mainstream pop arena to defy existing conventions, MKTO is breaking new ground in the US music scene. Instead of telling a common story about heartbreak or living it up in the club, Tony Oller and Malcolm David Kelley gave pop and hip-hop fans a modern-day protest song with their debut single Thank You.
Watch this American rebellious pop, hip-hop, and R&B duo change things up in today's music scene this holiday season. They are sure to capture the voice of a generation this holiday season.
Man Overboard is set to bring heat to Manila this holiday season. The New Jersey-based pop punk band will perform on December 19 at the Skydome in SM City North EDSA.
Known for their "Defend Pop Punk" movement, Man Overboard's third full-length album Heart Attack epitomizes the fluidity of the term "pop punk." With this album, the band shows both fans and critics that it's not an artist's angst or heaviness that makes them a part of the genre. The band shows that the "love your friends, die laughing" mentality is what it's all about, and what they're all about.
Whether you like listening to dancey, powerpop or angry, angsty rage music, Man Overboard has something for everyone. Watch them bring the house down with their best hits during this exciting season.
Brand New Day Holiday Concert
Featuring American pop, R&B, and jazz music singer Patti Austin, and local artists Martin Nievera and Richard Merck, the Brand New Day Holiday Concert is a fundraiser to rebuild homes for Yolanda victims. Join Austin, Nievera, Merck, and Habitat for Humanity in raising some funds for new homes for those in Tacloban. Listen to captivating contemporary music while helping those in need during this gift-giving season.
Despite the devastation that Yolanda brought to the country, it won't do to dwell in melancholy this Christmas. Join these foreign and local artists in celebrating the holidays with some good music and a whole lot of merriment.
