7 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Exercise

If you're reading this, then chances are, you too are feeling demotivated to hit the gym. Don't worry, you are not alone. For those of us who aren't naturally athletic, forcing oneself to even show up is an uphill battle, but that doesn't mean that fitness can merely fall to the wayside when considering one's wellbeing. So, we offer you the second best thing instead: little ways to help you get back on the fitness wagon that's heading straight towards the gym.

1. Listen to some music

Taking the time to curate a playlist of jams that'll keep you going shouldn't be anything new at this point. So take what you know and apply that to this context. Whether it's Kanye West or Taylor Swift (we don't judge, bro), music can help you power through a workout-just think of it like a battle cry.

2. Get dressed

Clothes ease our minds into certain activities. Cliche examples include putting your kit on before a game, a coat before a presentation, or even deodorant before a daunting task like a first date or-you guessed it!-sweating it out at the gym. The right gear can give you the confidence boost needed to accomplish what you set out to do. Or it can just make you too lazy to change back without finishing your workout. Whatever helps you get through it, do it.

3. Think of your goals

Remember why you're doing this. Do you want to look a certain way? Are you hoping to impress someone? How about to improve your health? When losing heart, think back to the real reason you're doing this and don't let yourself down. Do you need us to remind you that summer is upon us and so is beach season?

4. Reward yourself

There's nothing like a cheat day after sticking to a strict diet plan. It's the light at the end of the tunnel that helps us get through the tunnel in the first place. Be it a sinful meal or a relaxing deep-tissue massage, make sure you treat yourself. Recharge, so you can get back on your workout plan 100 percent.

5. Check your phone

There's an app for everything - even getting yourself to go to the gym. Pact lets you earn dollars when you fulfill your fitness... well, pact. Other apps make a game out of exercise, like going on a zombie dash, which is pretty self-explanatory.

6. Get a coach

If you still can't find it within yourself to finish your gym session, then paying someone to hold you accountable for your fitness just might be the solution for you. Yes, we're talking about the person who you secretly hate whenever he texts you a reminder or pushes you to do one more set. Budget alternative: A really adamant gym buddy.

7. Join a group class

If one-on-one training is too close for your comfort, then enroll in a group class instead. Indoor cycling instructors have particularly high energy and will be sure to keep yelling motivation as they pedal the way to fitness. Other classes to consider are rowing and group boxing. Just be kind to your classmates by making sure you don't stink. There are now deos made for movement, you know. No excuses-that goes for both working out and staying fresh!
