With new and exciting movies set for the second half of the year, movie fans are sure to buy movie tickets in the next few months. The second half of 2014 is set to bring a lot of sequels, prequels, and some book adaptations that look fresh and appealing.

Here are some of the most anticipated new films in the second half of 2014:

Transformers: Age of Extinction
While many movie critics weren't too fanatical about Transformers: Dark of the Moon in 2011, that didn't affect its performance worldwide. The fourth installment of the sci-fi franchise follows the story of an inventor who unintentionally starts a war after discovering a buried Transformer. Shia LaBeouf is out of this sequel, which stars Mark Wahlberg, T.J. Miller, and Kelsey Grammer.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
After the massive success of the Rise of the Plant of the Apes in 2011, it definitely made sense to greenlight a sequel to this movie. The Dawn of the Plant of the Apes tells the chronicles of humans fighting for their lives against genetically evolved apes. The movie promises to deliver more amazing fight sequences starring Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis, and Keri Russell.

The Expendables 3
Sylvester Stallone and his gang of veteran action stars are up for another adventure with new additions to the cast. The new faces include Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes, Harrison Ford, and Antonio Banderas. The third installment of the action franchise tells the story of the mercenary group coming into conflict with a ruthless arms trader and co-founder of the group.

Guardians of the Galaxy
This Marvel Studios film features the chronicles of heroic misfits led by a jet pilot stranded in space. Guardians of the Galaxy is directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, John Reilly, and WWE superstar Batista.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
This highly anticipated sequel to Sin City is a treat for many movie fans this coming August. The movie tells four different stories about the most brutally violent town in America. Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jeremy Piven, and Eva Green join Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Bruce Willis, and Jessica Alba for another round of blood, sex, and noir.

Gone Girl
Ben Affleck stars in this thriller about a woman who mysteriously disappears on her wedding anniversary. This is based on the bestselling novel with the same title, and is directed by David Fincher, the director of Fight Club and The Social Network. The movie also stars Rosamund Pike, Missi Pyle, and Neil Patrick Harris.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1
After grossing billions in box office, it is definitely clear that this movie franchise is definitely not going anywhere. Katniss Everdeen finds herself becoming a symbol of a mass rebellion against the Capitol. The second part of the movie will come out in theaters next year.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
After changing the title from The Hobbit: There and Back Again to The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, director Peter Jackson promises more action and excitement. This final installment of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic tale follows the adventures of Bilbo and the dwarves in reclaiming Erebor and the treasure.

These are just a few of the movies you can't afford to miss in the coming months.  From superheroes to action superstars, there are many films that are set to make noise at the box-office.
